At the beginning of each semester we host three Saturday Clinics at the Rez (about two hours each Saturday) that teach new members how to sail. The clinics start with basic guidance of sail orientation dealing with wind and some techniques to use on the water and then we rig up and sail. On the last Saturday new members can get certified to sail with the boats!
“And tell the world you set sail with Blackbeard!” On the treacherous waters of Lake Bradford set sail with us as we race during spookiest of October weekends. While testing your skills on navigating your vessel, you will also have to dodge Queen Anne’s Revenge as she pelts canons (tennis balls) at your sail. Be careful or if struck with a canon your boat will have to complete a full 360 before continuing on the charted path
Sailing isn’t our only water activity. A well-loved tradition of the sailing club is to put down our tiller’s and take up a tube. This adventure is complete with music, friends, and a whole lot of fun, as we spend the day cruising down a lazy river just enjoying the weather and company.
Camping? Alpaca my tent! While some might think that for all in-tents and purposes, camping is just sleeping outside, with the sailing club it’s so much more! As firm believers in s’more the merrier, over 30 sailors will join us on this event, as nothing can hold a kindle to a warm campfire, surrounded by chocolate, marshmallows and friends. So axe and you shall receive a camping trip just for the hill of it.
Once a year we call back our previous members and now distinguished alumni to the rowdiest, roughest, and mosrambunctious regatta of the year. It’s years of experience being tested out on the water as members new and old duke it out for the greatest trophy of all, and the bragging rights that will put crew mates to shame. So come out and test your skills, if you dare.
Things are about to get tipsy-turkey with this regatta. Instead of the college sailing standard W4, we will be shaking it up at Whirlpool and as you guessed creating a Whirlpool with a circular race route. I hope you don’t get dizzy easy.
